JUST CHILLIN AT THE CRIB TONIGHT

Just Chillin At The Crib Tonight, Valerie Caesar, 2024.

This illustration is for my aesthetic-minded introverts out there, who’d rather spend an evening in the crib with all the creature comforts and a dope track playing in the background. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m a highly sensitive individual who requires her surroundings to be fairly peaceful in order to truly relax. Living in Brooklyn, I’m inundated with sounds, smells, and activity that assault the senses on a daily basis, not to mention the stresses of work and life. It’s really important to me to cultivate a home environment that is soothing to my senses.

Here, I’ve replicated the essence of my living room with a soft shader brush, in a cozy style reminiscent of the perspective of that classic children’s book Goodnight Moon, but with the trappings of Black urban adulthood — a fully stocked bookcase, TV, blanket, sound system bumping the likes of Freddie Gibbs and MNDSGN, hot herbal tea, and a little hot herbal tree. Ahh, that’s the life.

ANIMATION STATION

I couldn’t help myself — I had to animate the lighting to reflect an undulating color and glow, and add some smoke to the j and vapor to my tea! So cozy. Watch this short video at the full screen setting to view these animated details.
