EVERYTHING THAT GLITTERS AIN’T FISHSCALE

Everything That Glitters Ain't Fishscale, Valerie Caesar, 2024.

This piece is one of my favorites. It’s inspired by the sight of two whole and filleted salmon, heads and tails included, sitting on my countertop. I’d just returned from a trip to the fish market on Long Island with my aunts. The title was derived from an MF DOOM lyric. This print looks so good in so many different color ways, so I had to include just a couple more.

I’m also playing around with incorporating textual elements. It’s kinda busy here — probably too busy, but in a way that I can sort of appreciate for its potential.
