EVERYONE’S IN JAPAN

A few times a year, everyone I know goes to Japan, and posts about it on social media. To ward against FOMO, I used one of their images as inspiration for this portrait-oriented Matsumoto landscape watercolor sketch. The cherry blossoms and green-leafed trees are articulated with soft, indistinct washes of color, which contrast nicely with the black lettering on the sign at right. Creating this illustration feels almost as good as being there. Almost.
