BACK FROM THE FARMER’S MARKET

Back From The Farmer’s Market, Valerie Caesar, 2024.

This illustration, another countertop still life, helped me understand why fruit (and vegetables) are such good models for illustrative practices — their variety of shapes and colors really challenge the artist in all realms of representation. Here I used a 3-color risograph approach again for the vegetables. I’ll love this style forever.

It also illustrates how manic I feel when it comes to my excitement about playing with different styles. I created the first version with a sort of graphic, abstracted background, and then became really interested in seeing what a comic strip style representation of the actual view would look like. I think the New Yorker magazine-style caption helps bring together the styles. In a psychedelic comic book world, this scene makes total sense. Hire me for your magazine comic needs. For real.
