In 2013, I traveled with my immediate family to Guyana, South America, where generations of my people are from. The journey had a significant anchoring effect on me – seeing my ancestral home made me feel more connected to myself. The tie that binds these images together is the unaffected expression of familial love, and an easy, colorful harmony with the rich natural environment, invoking a simple disavowal of a traditional understanding of poverty. The photos presented here are my link to that home away from home (away from home). See the full collection of Guyana photographs here.
